Music and Video Games - Day 1 - Nate and Micah
Music and Video Games day 1
By: Nate and Micah
We started the day by walking in and answering questions about the theme music for today's class. Our walk-in music was the theme of Mario. This will be a fun game that we play at the start of every class to discover the theme for the day! After answering questions about today's theme song, we learned about the music and video game industry. Next Mr. Lowry taught us about the elements of music so that we could have a good basis for understanding. These elements included: instrumentation, tempo, rhythm, texture, pitch, and dynamics. Additionally, we learned the necessary vocabulary to engage in these deep discussions on multiple aspects of the video game industry. Then we explored how music can be used as a tool in video games to set the feel of a scene or level for a player. We put this to the test by identifying the correct setting in a video game by listening to music played in the setting.
Pictured below is our class using boomwhackers as a tool to understand the tempo of a song. We were all assigned different colors, and as all of the tubes were different lengths/sounds, we were assigned different parts of the song we played. Through these instruments, we learned how to play the Mario Kart theme song. Additionally, like our sound of the day, we are going to learn how to play a song via boomwhackers every day.
