Music And Video Games Blog - Day 5 - The start of our project! - Ian N.

The day started with our walk-in question about Halo, which seemed to be much harder than the previous two. We later played Kahoot which we would use to attempt to identify Video game bosses with their musical themes. We then used our boom whackers to recreate the lost woods from Zelda The Ocarina of time. After a short break, we began identifying/Analyzing soundtracks from Mario Sunshine, in which we used our elements of music to find the differences between the original soundtrack and the chosen soundtracks from the different game levels. After our break, we began to brainstorm in preparation for our project in which we have to create musical themes for the videogame concept areas we created! To do this we were taught how to navigate SoundTrap, which is a music production studio software made in 2013, in which you can create your own music for free. This work on SoundTrap helped us broaden our view on making background music and how to incorporate it into a specific theme. These first few events marked the first half of our day.

After lunch, we would then begin our second musical videogame tournament in which we would use the original Wii to play Wii-Music. But before we began our tournament, we created our very own Mii's, which were avatars that would help us differentiate each other during our tournament. Inside this tournament, we would play 2 different parts of Wii music, Mii Maestro a game in which we would use our Wii Remotes to recreate an orchestra, and Pitch perfect, where we would guess which pitches matched the original sound we needed to identify. We would play both of these games in groups of 3 with 4 teams total. Depending on the placement you would start at first place with 15 and go down by 5 points depending on what placement your team was given for that round. At the end of the day, the many activities we participated in were both educational and fun.
