Day 7 - Rose and Aliya

    Day 7 of Gamer school began with the Questions of the Day, Kahoot, and Boomwackers. It seems that every day we get better and better at Boomwackers, and today was no exception with us hitting the main theme of Animal Crossing New Horizons out of the park. This perfectly set us up for the soundtrack analysis of the day, being that very game. We split into groups to listen to and connect three tracks representing the hours of the day. After sharing our findings, we worked on video game soundtracks of our own design with mine being about vampires and Aliya's being about baking. The highlight of the day for me though was watching Gloria play a rhythm game with Hatsune Miku in it. It seemed so difficult and it was funny to see her try again and again! 

    In the afternoon we began our daily videogame tournament with Trombone Champ. Trombone Champ is a game that simulates playing the trombone with your mouse and spacebar. The tournament was configured a bit different than usual, there were no teams and there were two leaderboards one based on letter scores and the other on numerical scores. At first, we all had one practice attempt at the intro of the game. After everyone completed the intro we began our two real attempts for points. Personally, the game is very hard because I struggle with the backward controls, but it is extremely funny to hear the trombone being played incorrectly. Unfortunately, we were not able to finish the tournament today so we will complete the tournament tomorrow.

The day started with our walk-in question about Halo, which seemed to be much harder than the previous two. We later played Kahoot which we would use to attempt to identify Video game bosses with their musical themes. We then used our boom whackers to recreate the lost woods from Zelda The Ocarina of time. After a short break, we began identifying/Analyzing soundtracks from Mario Sunshine, in which we used our elements of music to find the differences between the original soundtrack and the chosen soundtracks from the different game levels.  January 5, 2023 We began our second class today with a video game "question of the day" about Sonic the Hedgehog. The three questions were; what year did sonic the hedgehog come out, what console was the game originally made for, and who is the villain that sonic has to fight? We then dove into the history of video games and we worked in groups to create sections of timelines that displayed the history of video games.  After working on this, we took a break and returned to learn about "Music in video games". We began by learning about how sound waves work and then watching/listening to gameplay from old games. we then analyzed the sounds and described what we heard. After that, we had lunch and prepared for our drive up to Dallas. About halfway through our ride we quickly stopped at BUC-EECS to stop for snacks. Music and Video Games - Day 1 - Nate and Micah

Music and Video Games day 1 By: Nate and Micah  We started the day by walking in and answering questions about the theme music for today's class. Our walk-in music was the theme of Mario. This will be a fun game that we play at the start of every class to discover the theme for the day! After answering questions about today's theme song, we learned about the music and video game industry. Next Mr. Lowry taught us about the elements of music so that we could have a good basis for understanding. These elements included: instrumentation, tempo, rhythm, texture, pitch, and dynamics. Additionally, we learned the necessary vocabulary to engage in these deep discussions on multiple aspects of the video game industry. Then we explored how music can be used as a tool in video games to set the feel of a scene or level for a player.
